Bellagio deserves the title of the pearl of Lake Como. Bellagio has been inhabited since prehistoric times. This fortified settlement in the Middle Ages and then as free small community and as an adversary of Como in a ten-year war, belonged to the Marquis of Visconti, then to Stanga and to Sfondrati. Many villas and palaces were built in this area after various vicissitudes during the 18th century. Parks also were renovated and expanded. In 800 Bellagio became one of the most famous resorts in Europe.
